Ikea Furniture Hands On Chic
Ikea furniture is designed to be self-assembled, with the majority of its products to be assembled by the consumer when they get home.
The idea was born from a Swedish draughtsman, Gillis Lundgren, who worked for Ikea. He needed to fit a table into his car that wouldn’t fit so he cut off the legs and reassembled the table when he got home.
The company was built around this concept reducing the cost of shipping and packaging.
Another advantage to saving on the cost of shipping and packaging was one of being practical. Many customers in Europe use public transportation and the flat packaging Ikea offers makes transporting their furniture home possible.
Having the advantage of ready to assemble furniture saves you money because it cuts down on the delivery costs and generally only requires a few tools to put together.
Shop owners also see an advantage because if they are going to stock merchandise, it is much easier to store.
Rather than having a warehouse of fully assemble pieces, flat pack furniture is easier to stock and they don’t have the cost of delivering.
The furniture is shipped from the manufacturer that way so it is easier and less expensive to purchase for the merchant as well as the consumer making this a very cost effective way of selling furniture.
This type of furniture is packaged in a kit form and includes the parts needed (in theory) like fasteners, screws and of course the instructions.
In reality however, the money you save will probably outweigh the aggravation you’ll feel when trying to put together these kits. Truth be known, sometimes it can be a headache but other times it is a breeze. Ultimately though, it is usually always worth the savings.
A ready to assemble piece of furniture that’s practical, like a bookcase, storage or serving piece can become a beautiful addition to other furnishings of a higher quality. And a great mix of high and low makes for an inviting room without becoming predictable.
I personally like to mix in this fashion but Ikea furniture is designed for every room in the home and known for high style and innovation at great prices and produces unusual and highly functional products from the decorative to entire kitchens and bedding.
Ikea furniture is identified by Swedish names and everyone seems to have a favorite. One of mine is the Paong chair, but the most popular purchases are a kitchen table and chairs.
But Ikea produces furniture for all other living areas, including furniture for the home office and children’s rooms.
The clean lines are an attractive feature and many of the styles stay in production for years.
