Microfiber Upholstery Fabric
Beautiful Strength

Just what is Microfiber upholstery fabric anyway. After all, it seems as though all we are seeing in the furniture stores are selections of sofas and chairs in this wonder fabric.

Microfiber upholstery fabric on sofas Microfibers, a term that is short for micro denier fiber is a significant innovation in fabric technology and a rapidly growing category of fabrics. "Denier" is the term that defines the fineness of a filament fiber such as silk or man-made fibers.

Microfibers are extremely fine. Much finer that the most delicate silk and 100 times finer than even your hair giving them unique and desirable properties such as exceptional strength.

These fine fibers are so small that when they are woven into a fabric they can be woven together very tightly.

This creates a depth and body and also results in a more durable fabric.

Although these fibers are fine and lightweight they are not flimsy, instead giving the fabrics a luxurious drape to them.

However, they can also be blended with other fibers such as nylon, rayon, acetate or a combination including natural fibers such as cotton and silk, allowing them to resemble more of your traditional fabrics like silks, suede, chenille and velvets.

But one of the first and probably the best known of this type of upholstery fabric was “ultra suede” creating excellent durability in faux leathers.

These fabrics breathe and have a soft hand giving them a soft comfort similar to natural fabrics therefore the furniture that is upholstered in this fabric is soft and plush and easy to clean and maintain.

Microfibers used for upholstery are designed to be stain resistant, as a result one would not need after market fabric protection such as Scotchguard.
