Decorating on a Budget
and Still Be Beautiful!

Sometimes all it takes to achieve huge style while decorating on a budget is re-arranging what you already own and purchasing key pieces inexpensively.

Start by "de-cluttering" the space so that you can begin with a clean slate. Edit what you don't need or want.

When decorating on a budget, try floating the furniture instead of hugging the walls. This creates a change in the look of the room making it feel more custom.

By changing the dimension of the room, you may discover you need less additional pieces to make the space work. It allows you to build upon your existing decor, without having to go out and buy everything new.

Keep focused by identifying your personal style. When you identify a theme you narrow down the choices, giving you more confidence to trust your instincts and hone in on the bargains! (And stay in budget)

Invest in quality furniture where you can, especially in the rooms that you are going to use a lot.

Staying in budget takes patience but you can find quality pieces cheap!

When you shop, bring home only those elements that work with your theme. If you are "on the fence" about an item you found, ask yourself will it fit into my theme?

Find something that works but you aren't totally in love with it? You may want to purchase it anyway (if the price is right)

Shopping at some of the bargain resources, it may not be there when you go back.

Time has a way of making things grow on you!

Decorating on a budget with paint adds interest to a room and can accentuate your furnishings. It can be purchased inexpensively, and be easily changed.

Do different tones of the same color to give a room added dimension. Or consider one wall as a dramatic accent color for visual interest.

Faux finishes will offer your walls depth and pattern variation for a rich look.

Keep the paint swatch card from the paint store to use as guide when shopping for the room. Some paint sample cards do the work for you, showing several beautiful contrast color choices, as well as tones in the same color family.

Be sure to add them to your inspiration board!

Plants too are a wonderful way to liven up a room when decorating on a budget.

They add personality and a breath of freshness, while filling the space cheaply. Placed in a pretty pot they can stand alone in a corner, next to the fireplace, behind a chair to define a seating arrangement, or between two windows.

If you are decorating on a budget you may only have a certain amount of money to spend, make it count.

For example don't spend $50.00 on a vase that you won't see that much because it is sitting on a shelf. Instead take the same $50.00 and make a dramatic floral arrangement or purchase a smashing pair of pillows.

Layer Different Textures in a Room

Nothing says luxury like luscious textures and cushy pillows. Pillows are a great way to decorate on a budget and change the look of a room. They give new life to otherwise "tired" upholstery. Combine sizes and textures for the most appeal.

Use these ideas and allow your rooms to evolve slowly. It will save you money in the long run and bring you more satisfaction as you enjoy the creative process.

The goal is to create a home that is comfortable and says “I'm happy to be here”.
