Home furnishings and decorating two of my favorite things...
I must have always been interested in interior decorating, from the time I was little and would sneak in a family owned furniture store in the neighborhood a block from my home and "play house" in the vignettes.
Funny now that I think about it, I would be in the home furnishings and decorating business for more than 20 years now.
I took a class in interior design in high school and excelled in it. Up until then school didn't hold much interest for me, but from that positive learning experience I decided to go to school for design and received an associate degree from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
My experience is in retail home furnishings and decorating furniture stores, working with customers on the sales floor, buying at the furniture and accessory markets and merchandising the selling floor.
The best part of my job is the great number of people I meet, the beautiful homes I see and being able to do what I love, which is to help create comfortable and beautiful living spaces within them.
It could be just a matter of finding a suitable coffee table to furnishing the entire home, starting with the floor plan to the selection of the furniture, fabric, colors, and choosing the accessories that will pull it all together.
I like to draw so I especially enjoy doing floor plans and arranging furniture. I do them the old fashion way, with a pencil and a scale rule, and first learned how to draw a scaled floor plan using an ink pen. You certainly didn't want many mistakes when you used ink (talk about showing my age!)
I also love to shop and so I do personal shopping for people who otherwise may not have the time, or think they lack the confidence to see how the furniture, artwork or accessories are going to work in their home. Often they know what they like but because they have a hard time visualizing, they get stalled into non action.
I started this website as a hobby mostly because I love what I do. My hope is to share those experiences in an informative manner with as many of you who are interested and hopefully you will take a little away with you.
